What a fantastic time of year to spend an afternoon in Healdsburg.
The weather was a balmy 78° with a pleasant breeze. After picking up the ML350 from another awesome renter, we took the afternoon to explore the Healdsburg Square, take some photos, as well as test some video footage for our YouTube channel which is just begging for some sweet car action.
Window shopping peaked our appetites, so we found Willi’s Seafood and Raw Bar which is related to our favorite Willi’s Wine Bar (which sadly burned in the October fires). Fantastic eats were had. The calamari and fish tacos were excellent as well as the sautéed spinach, but the fan favorite had to be the french fries… yum! After lunch, a treat was in order which Noble Folk Ice Cream & Pie Bar quickly satisfied. That had to be some of the best grey colored ice cream I’ve ever had.
Now back to work! On the hunt for some prime vineyard backdrops and wide open spaces to fly the drone, we drove up to the Jimtown / Alexander Valley area and found a shared driveway that fit the bill. Typical my luck that the wind would pick up and offer a true test of the drone’s flying abilities, which it passed (aka not crashed), but it did not produce any video footage that lived up to my (modest) standards. At least we were able to get a few shots of the fleet with the ol’ still camera.
It was time to head home now and Siri advised that it was slightly quicker to head through Calistoga (aka NOT the freeway) huzzah! This whole area is very low traffic with smooth rolling hills, which was a blast in the A4. The pavement was relatively new and lines were wide. Only thing that slowed me down was some trucks with horse trailers heading into Calistoga. Once in Calistoga, we headed West over the hill back to Rincon Valley. Couple tight twisty sections here with a residential area in the middle where CHP like to hang out. Then down the long straight back home which is perfect for cooling down the turbo after a day of spirited driving.
What a day… Let’s do it again!
